Amethyst Tumbled

Amethyst is a type of quartz that is renowned for its stunning violet to purple coloration, which is primarily caused by the presence of iron impurities and irradiation. Its crystalline structure belongs to the trigonal crystal system, and it commonly forms in geodes or hollow rocks. Amethyst's hardness registers at 7 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively durable and suitable for various types of jewelry. This mineral can be found in many parts of the world, including Brazil, Uruguay, Russia, and the United States. The intensity of its color can vary depending on the concentration of iron and the amount of radiation exposure it has undergone.

Amethyst is generally considered non-toxic and safe to handle, making it suitable for use in jewelry and decorative items. It is composed mainly of silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is a stable and inert compound under normal conditions. There is no evidence to suggest that amethyst poses any health risks through skin contact or typical usage. However, like any mineral, it can produce fine dust if ground or cut, which should not be inhaled as it can cause respiratory issues. Therefore, while amethyst itself is not toxic, proper precautions should be taken during its processing to avoid inhaling any dust.
